Is the Bible Still Relevant?

Your word, Lord, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.

Psalm 119:89

New International Version (NIV)

Many people these days dismiss the Bible as an archaic document of history that is mostly irrelevant in our time.  Things have changed since those times described in the Bible some might say--we are more enlightened  now and have different needs.  The Bible is fine for some, but not for the scoffers who think they can get along without God.  Even many who call themselves Christians rarely delve deeply into what the Bible has to say.

The Holy Bible is not a mere collection of words, but it is The Word that is a collection of historical records, laws and rules to live by, prophecies, words of praise and poesy, and some of the deepest and most beautiful thoughts ever written.  The Bible was written for all people of all times and is probably more relevant now than ever before in human history.

For those who say "God is dead" or "There is no God", I say He is not only alive in the World, he is alive in the Word.   It's up to the reader to let God out of the pages and into their life.  Atheists are frequently well studied in the Bible, yet they have not allowed God to come to life for them.  They are reading with the atheistic mindset firmly in place and resisting the Spirit to breathe into their lives.   When God comes knocking at your door you must open that door on your own and listen to what He has to say.

Study with honesty and a clear head.   God is there.  Jesus is alive.  The Holy Spirit is ready to work in your life when you are willing to do the work required of you.   Read the Bible regularly with joy in your heart. Don't always just accept as truth what you think you heard or misremembered from some cursory reading long ago.  The Bible was, is, and will be.   The Holy Bible is alive and will give you a fuller life if you are willing read, heed, and learn from it.

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Acts 17:11

New International Version (NIV)

  1. The Bible is absolutely still relevant! It's actually very sad on one note. Our society, ig heading towards what it was, of the times of the Israelite's, and the times of Jesus... They didn't know Jesus.

But the bible, is relevant! It is the word of God, that applies to everyone's live! In this book of history, teachings, and hope, their is a little something for everyone, even if they refuse it!

Great Blog Post! I am defiantly, coming back here more and more often to read your Posts! If you like, you can fine me at: Pray To God Today! Thanks :D

This is GREAT! I love it when you come right out boldly and say, "This is THIS!"

And I love the look of that old Bible pictured at the top of the post - very little is more beautiful looking than a well-worn book, and especially when that book is "THE" BOOK.

    >> . . . Even many who call themselves Christians rarely delve deeply into what the Bible has to say.

This is so sadly true. The vast majority of people who are self-professed Christians have never even read the entire Bible once from cover to cover, from Genesis to Revelation. What's ironic is that despite the fact I do NOT refer to myself as a "Christian", I read The Bible in its entirety every year.

A lot of people who are out there proselytizing and attempting to bring others to Christ, even they have not read The Holy Bible fully. I don't "get" that.

Funny you posted this today because I have a blog bit planned for 'Ferret-Faced Fascist Friends' all about how to start a Bible reading plan. I haven't decided if it will be my very next post or the one after that. Maybe this post of yours is a sign to me that I should compose the Bible Study blog bit next.

Loved this blog installment, Lee! Thanks for the inspiration, Brother. I'm off now to read my Bible verses for the day. TOODLE-OO.

  3. I really enjoy your Sunday posts. One of the things I'm most in awe of is how relevant the Bible is today...how amazing it is that something penned so long ago speaks right to where I am today. We like to think the world is full of new problems, but there really is nothing new under the sun, is there? When you get to the heart of any matter, the answer to every problem out there can still be found in the Bible. Have a nice week!
