The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
Psalm 23:1
New Living Translation (NLT)
I'd like to find a steady assured source of income. Good health for many more years would be nice. I hope I can keep my home or something equivalent for the duration of my life. Since my van may be on its last legs, I wouldn't mind having a new vehicle.
My wish list is long, but they are not things that are necessary for my eternal salvation. They are things that make life seem a little better by earthly standards.
I've always managed to get by in my life and God has been faithful in providing my needs. I can always think of something to add to my wish list, but I look forward to even better things.
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
Philippians 4:11
New International Version (NIV)
Love this. thanks for the reminder and encouragement.
ReplyDeleteIf only more people could be content with what they need instead of what they want the world would be a nicer place. Great post.
ReplyDeleteSociety doesn't teach to be content these days. It tells you to buy now and pay later, or even to get a loan so you can have it all now. No longer do people value what they have because they didn't work hard and sweat to get it.
ReplyDeleteI like your thoughts about being content, something I have strived to do for a long time, although like your post, I would like to have a bit more (but no big deal if I don't get it all)
I feel the same way, Arlee. For me, I think part of it is age, but bigger than that is knowing that my needs are in God's hands and I am fine with whatever He gives me . . . (although I would like to spend more time on the Big Island, Lord. Just sayin')
ReplyDeleteYep, this world is not our home. The older I get, the more detached I get from "stuff." God bless you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts. I can see many of us are in similar circumstances.
ReplyDeleteRum-punch -- So true what you say. Welcome to this blog.

I whine about the things I don't have and where the border between 'need' and 'want' starts to blurr - but:
ReplyDelete* I have a roof over my head (all paid for)
* I have clothes on my back (and a wardrobe full - the fact that so many don't fit would be remedied by cutting my diet!)
* I never go to bed hungry
* I can turn the tap on and drink as much clean fresh water as I like
Compared to the vast majority of humankind, I already live in paradise! I should count myself truly blessed!
