The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Psalm 19:1
New International Version (NIV)
Humans are creative. Since we were created in God's image and we are creative then it stands to reason that God is creative. After all, He created us and all of the universe. God wants us to create. We are not intended to just live at the whims of the natural forces of Earth and the universe. As creative humans we are expected to construct shelter, and creative shelter at that.
We build amazing structures. We create beautiful artwork. We develop cities and the inventions that allow us to have better lives. Humans compose music and literature. But do we do all these things for the glory of God?
God's work supersedes anything than humans can come up with, but still we create for that is part of our legacy. Perhaps when we create everything with God in mind just as we were created from the mind of God, then we will achieve all that we were intended to be. This dream is not something that humanity will see in the current corrupted Earth.
God created us to be creative, but the bounds of our creativity are limited in this fallen world. Oh, what amazing things to come in the Kingdom of God!

I just love this. I look out my back window at the amazing changing landscape of color and design and feel awe. The mountains, the sunrise over those mountains...creativity on display. I'm a creative person, but the end product doesn't always match the vision that was in my head : ) Great post!
ReplyDeleteJoyce, that's the way I feel as well. I imagine wonderful things, but I can never recreate them as I envision them. Still it won't keep me from creating more.

When our kids were younger we used to alternate our vacations between "man-made" and "God-made". Grand Canyon one year, New York City the next. I love thinking my little bit of creativity comes from the great Creator!
ReplyDeleteI like that mix that you describe, Sheila. The God made is truly amazing, but some of man's works are a site worth seeing. Good vacation mix that you plan with your family.

Amen to what lies ahead in the kingdom of heaven. He is such an amazing creator indeed.

Do we do these things for the Glory of God? How many people even take the time to give their workday to the glory of God? It is so easy to be thoughtless.
ReplyDeleteWe should at the very least be giving thanks to God throughout the day everyday. I don't think that many people even do that.

So true! And, He created us and our amazing brains. It is so neat to see what people come up with (technology, art, etc.)...and all inspired by God.
ReplyDeleteOr at least done with our God-given abilities
