Good Things

Praise the Lord,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:5

New International Version (NIV)

Maybe I pray for some of the wrong things.  But then again God knows what is best for me.  I know that sometimes my prayers are misdirected.  What I desire may not be what is best for me.  It may not be what I need.

A kid may wish to be let loose in the candy store.  If left on his own the kid in the candy store may eat all that he can until he becomes full and sick to his stomach, senses deadened, uncomfortably ill.  The kid probably knows what is best for him, but that lustful desire unleashes a maddening greed and an uncontrollable frenzy of feeding the sensual craving within.

I am the kid at the doorway of the candy store.  I ask God to let me go in--it is my desire.  God listens and he satisfies my desire with good things--perhaps not what I thought I wanted, but what I needed.  God does answer my prayers in unexpected ways.   But his ways are always the best for me.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

James 1:17

New International Version (NIV)

  1. I needed this reminder. Sometimes we get what we don't need. Not good. It's humbling to say the least. :-) Happy Sunday!

  2. I love how He not only gives us what we need, but satisfies the (sometimes silly!) desires of our hearts. It's His attention to the tiniest details of our lives that makes us fall ever deeper in love with Him.

  3. I love this, Arlee...and what a perfect photo to accompany your post. I always say that I am thankful God doesn't necessarily give us what we want, but ALWAYS what we need. He knows best!

  4. I love this, too. God does know best for us, but we get impatient, we forget. We ARE children, HIS children, so it will take us a lifetime to grow in this regard, I guess. :-)
