Thanking Those Who Keep Us Free

I will always thank the Lord;
      I will never stop praising him.

Psalm 34:1

Good News Translation (GNT)

            In the United States  Memorial Day is a day when we give honor to those who have helped keep our nation free and to preserve our way of life.  Many have died and made tremendous sacrifices fighting for the ideals upon which this great country was founded.

           This week-end we give thanks to all the men and women who died for our freedom.  We should also remember to thank the founding fathers who set the course for our nation.   Thanks could also be offered for the inventors and creators who made our country an innovator that contributed to the betterment of our lives and made the U.S. an economic leader.    And let us not forget the teachers, medical personnel, clergy, and all of those in the public and private sector who make our country run smoothly and provide for a safe, secure, and comfortable living environment.

          Then we should remember all of the responsible and dedicated parents, grandparents, family members, and neighbors who give us support and sense of community.  Perhaps we need to thank everyone in this great country for what good they have done or what they are capable of doing one day.

          Have I forgotten to thank anyone?   Who do you think deserves a deep expression of gratitude?

 Rejoice always,  pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

  1. I think you have covered everyone, Lee. As I read your words I am looking at Pikes Peak, here in Colorado and thinking about the song that was written about this mountain--"America the Beautiful," "O beautiful for heroes prov'd
    In liberating strife,
    Who more than self their country lov'd,
    And mercy more than life."This is one of the verses that we don't hear. Thank you for your post.

  4. I was in Washington DC last year on Memorial Day and saw first hand how it is commemorated. We visited Arlington Cemetary which was an awesome sight.

    Yvonne.

    Still can't get the problem sorted with Internet Explorer and am losing comments from people.

  5. Thank you for this post! I am thankful for all those who have made our nation great, who have strengthened our families and communities, and who have given their lives or a portion of their lives for the causes of freedom.
    My dad couldn't join the military due to his disability, so he takes his duties as a voting citizen very seriously, and I think that there are many like him in our country . . .keeping up with politics and keeping justice and freedom in the forefront of their thoughts.
