Humble Yourself

      Overconfidence can be a problem.

It's important to have confidence in your abilities.  On the job you want those who need to trust in your skills to believe that you can do what you're supposed to do.  You want to have a certain amount of confidence in your finesse in dealing with your family and people you come into contact with in your daily life.  Most important of all you want to have confidence in your relationship with God.

"God?" you may ask.  "I can handle my life just fine.  I don't need any God."

You are so wrong if you believe that.  It sounds to me like your arrogance showing through.  You are being overconfident.  Unfounded overconfidence is a weakness rather than a strength.

When you declare that you have all the answers and there is no room for God in your life then you are excluding yourself from the greatest of rewards--in this life and beyond.  Do you think you will never get sick or have hardships?  Do you think the world will never fail you?  If you believe you are excluded from these things then you are in for a big disappointment.  Everyone has some sort of troubles to face in this life and someday we will all die.

Don't get me wrong.   I'm not saying a life in Christ is not without it's difficulties.  In fact if you accept Jesus as Lord you may have more travails than any Godless person.   The difference between the one who loves the Lord and the one who rejects God is the ability to cope.

If you think you know it all then who will you turn to when you come to the place where there is something you don't know?  When you don't know what to do?    Who do you turn to when you have failed yourself and all others in whom you believed have let you down as well.

Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift you up.  James 4:10

  1. My confidence have taken a nose dive of late, whether it is family problems or health issues I haven't established. I am slowly getting my confidence back .....but it's going to take time.

  4. Like a lot of people, my problem (well, one of them) lies in not having enough self-confidence. But I always have confidence in God.
